The highlight of our trip was undoubtedly the horse-riding experience. Diego who is not only a gracious host but also a skilled equestrian, provided a wonderful introduction to horse riding. The horses were well-trained and gentle, perfect for both beginners and experienced riders alike. We had the opportunity to ride through the mountains of Cocora claiming mountains and crossing beautiful rivers , which offered breathtaking views and a true connection with nature.

If you speak English, this is your horseback riding farm. IT WAS GREAT!! I will remember this day the rest of my life. Trust Diego! It rained hard on us and I still had a great time.
We had the most wonderful time with Diego and Guillermo! With the help of their lovely horses, they guided us through some of the most stunning landscapes I have seen during my time here in Colombia. This ride is much different than any other rides offered. You get to control the horse and are not simply following a trail. Guillermo was also very friendly and made the ride even more fun! Upon arrival at Reserva Guadalajara, I was immediately struck by the lush greenery and serene atmosphere of the surrounding neighborhood. The tranquility extends throughout the finca, where Diego and his team take excellent care of their animals, including horses, cows, and dogs.
Diego is not only experienced but incredibly attentive and friendly. He provided clear instructions on horseback riding and meticulously adjusted equipment to fit each rider perfectly, ensuring both comfort and safety throughout the ride. His caring nature extends to his staff as well, and he makes an effort to ensure everyone feels included and valued.
The trail itself is nothing short of spectacular. Each turn seems to reveal a view more impressive than the last, and the beautiful short hike through the forest to the river adds a fresh dynamic to the tour. Drinking water straight from the river was a unique and memorable aspect of the experience, though not obligatory if course.
Throughout the tour, Diego shared fascinating details about the landscape, flora, and fauna of the valleys, making the ride as educational as it was enjoyable. Diego’s warmth and inclusivity made the tour feel personal and welcoming.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour to friends and family. It was a major highlight of my trip to Salento and sets a high standard for horseback riding tours. The value of the experience far exceeds the cost, leaving you feeling like you’ve truly gotten more than the cost’s worth.

Jízda s Diegem a jeho parťákem byla skvělá. Ačkoliv se na poslední chvíli změnil plán kvůli velkému počtu turistů ve městě (Velikonoce), tak všechno probíhalo naprosto v pořádku. Jediná věc, které jsem si všiml, že chybí k úplnosti celého zážitku bylo to, že kvůli přesunu jsme nedostali k jízdě správňácký kovbojský klobouk. Každopádně tohle byla úplná maličkost a jízda byla naprosto bezpečná a profesionálně odvedená. Koně jsou velmi zkušení a už fungují trochu na automat, nicméně člověk je musí občas korigovat 😀👍🏻

Man spürt und sieht dass es den Pferden gut geht. Pferde sind sehr ruhig und gepflegt und super für Anfänger (wie uns 😉 ) geeignet. Diego und sein Partner waren sehr aufmerksam, haben uns gut instruiert wie man sich auf den Pferden verhält und uns einiges zu der Natur erzählt. Es war eine sehr tolle Atmossphäre und wir würden die Tour jederzeit wieder machen.
This was one of the best experiences of my life, definitely the best one in Colombia. From the beginning Diego tries his best to make you feel part of the family of Reserva Guadalajara; you can instantly tell how much he cares about his guests and most importantly the horses. You will feel like you’re in a dream from the very second you step in Reserva Guadalajara, the landscapes are beyond wonderful, and what surprised me the most is Diego’s attitude during the whole tour. He mentioned he gave his first tour 7 years ago but up to this day I could see the excitement and joy in his eyes when he takes you trough the path he used to take along his grandfather back when he was a young kid. The treatment you receive is as amazing as the views you will get once you get when you’re on top of the mountain.
This tour is definitely worth the trip if you’re anywhere near Colombia.

Mein Freund sass übrigens noch nie auf einem Pferd. Die Pferde sind super leicht zu reiten und es macht sehr viel Spass. Wie Diego & Giullermo mit den Tieren umgehen, ist wunderschön zu sehen. Auch die zwei Schäfer Hunde sind unglaublich süss. Die Landschaft die man sieht, ist unbeschreiblich. Wirklich – ich kann es nicht noch mehr empfehlen!
Kurz vorab: ein absolutes Muss – auch für Leute, die nicht reiten können (wie wir)!
Als wir auf der Ranch ankamen, wurden wir freundlich begrüßt und schon gab es eine unterhaltsame Einweisung und Übersicht, über das, was wir heute erleben werden.
Die Pferde waren allesamt sehr gut gepflegt und zudem sehr zahm. Das fiel uns gleich positiv auf.
Diego erzählte auf sehr sympathische Weise viele interessante Fakten und Geschichten über das Tal, Fauna und Flora und Kolumbien.
Der Ausritt ist sehr abwechslungsreich und daher gibt es ständig neue Impressionen. Auch die Pausen wurden gut gewählt und sorgten für eine kleine Entspannung zwischendurch.
Wir haben uns auf der gesamten Tour sehr sicher und aufgehoben gefühlt. Nicht zuletzt, weil Diego ein sehr empathischer Mann ist!

It was my first horseback riding trip on principle. I have nothing to compare it with, but everything was very organized and interesting. Before the ride we were explained how to control the horse. And they helped us during the ride itself. But as for me 4 hours on a horse even with small breaks is too much. I was very tired and didn’t want to do anything for the rest of the day.
I was pleasantly surprised that the farm had hats to take on the ride and a menu, which allows you to have a snack immediately after arrival.

Diego is the definition of a superhost.
He shares not only access to his family’s land, but his years of experience, information and stories of the area. We had an incredible time exploring a normally inaccessible area of the Cocora Valley on horseback with this tour, the views are breathtaking, and we learned a lot about the indigenous species of flora and fauna.
Once you meet Diego and his team, you will understand why this is rated so highly, they are very warm and caring and ensure that everyone on the tour is having a great time.
Do yourself a favour, book this experience if you are visiting the Salento area, you will not regret it!
Comme je le mentionnais à Diego, l’organisateur hors-pair de la chevauchée et son co-équipier Guillermo, pour avoir parcouru la planète à la recherche de riches expériences, celle-ci s’inscrit dans mon Top 10. D’abord, à ma grande surprise, voyageant en solo, Diego avait prévu m’accorder une expédition en privé. Généreux à me partager ses connaissances de la région et de la flore, il le fût tout autant de son temps et de son écoute intéressé. Comme activité,c’est vraiment excitant de gravir et descendre de ces montagnes aux sentiers sinueux et escarpés. Impressionnant de voir comment ces chevaux criollos sont bien dressés et surtout puissants à traverser tous ces obstacles avec grande agilité. De vrais cascadeurs! Et cette Vallée de Cocora est magnifiquement enrichie d’une végétation luxuriante, de magnifiques cours d’eau, de pâturages et de majestueux palmiers. Sans compter l’excellent vin rouge que nous avons dégusté au sommet d’un mont avec une vue imprenable sur la vallée. Et tout cela, à un prix très raisonnable pour ne pas dire généreux. Si vous êtes dans la région, ne ratez pas cette expérience extraordinaire, Diego et Guillermo sauront se mettre à la hauteur de vos aspirations,tout en se souçiant de vos capacités et de votre sécurité avec une grande attention.

Echt in aanrader als je in Salento bent. Heb nog nooit op een paard gezeten maar het was goed te doen. Mooie toch door het water en de bergen in. Zelfs nog een hike in de jungle kunnen doen. Diego is een super goede tourgids dus zeker een aanrader
After reading so many amazing reviews my friend and I booked this excursion as a last stop before leaving Salento. I am so relieved we did, this was the highlight of our stay BY FAR! We rode on horseback through mountains (different than what you see in Cocora Valley), stopped for a mini picnic at the top, explored jungles, and rode through pastures with COWS! We finished with a cold glass of lemonade at Diego’s finca. Diego was amazing & enriched our experience with stories from his personal life growing up here as well. I used to ride horses regularly, while my friend had never ridden a horse before- we both had an AMAZING time. Thank you Diego and cowboy Guillermofor the best experience!
This was one of the best things I’ve ever done, I absolutely loved it! Diego is amazing and takes you up paths not frequented by other travellers; the viewpoint at the top is absolutely incredible (looked like the sound of music!) and we even got a little wine to celebrate making it up there. I had never ridden a horse but Diego and Guillermo were brilliant in making me feel at ease and cheering me on! Diego’s dogs came along for the whole ride and the overall experience was just magical. 100% recommend!

Skip all the other overpriced tours that take you to the overcrowded tourist areas and straight go to Diego’s – you won’t regret it.
Das war die mit Abstand beste Reittour, die ich je gemacht habe! Diego, sein Team und die Pferde waren perfekt und haben uns einen tollen Aufenthalt bereitet! Wir waren eine kleine Gruppe (4 Personen) mit 2 Guides und gemeinsam mit den 3 Hunden haben wir die wunderschöne Natur genossen. Ich habe selten so gesunde und tolle Pferde bei einer Tour gehabt. Kann jedem nur empfehlen, die Tour zu machen und ein paar Nächte bei Diego und seiner Familie auf der Farm Guadalajara zu bleiben. ☺️

If you only want to do one thing in colombia, let this be it. Every detail from start to finish was amazing, from bonding with the animals to the mini picnic on top of the mountain, and into the jungle. Diego and Guillermo were friendly and good storytellers. The horses were well trained, and the ride was safe, but exciting. The restaurant also offers a generous and delicious breakfast and dinner.

Ich hatte vorher überhaupt keine Reitkenntnisse, habe mich während der gesamten
Tour sehr sicher gefühlt, obwohl es an manchen Abschnitten steil nach oben bzw
nach unten ging. Die Pferde sind gut trainiert und gehen sicher.
Wir waren in einer Gruppe von 6 Personen unterwegs. Dazu noch Diego und sein
Mitarbeiter, die stets darauf geachtet haben, dass jeder gut mitkommt und sich
wohlfühlt. Diegos 3 Hunde gaben zusätzlich Begleitschutz und sind ebenfalls gut
trainiert, soweit ich das beurteilen kann.
Die Landschaft/Umgebung im Cocoratal ist natürlich wunderbar.
Wir hatten vorher bereits eine Unterkunft in Salento gebucht. Ich kann aber nur
empfehlen, bei Diego ein Zimmer zu buchen. Seine Finca ist wunderschön, liegt
optimal für Ausflüge ins Cocoratal und Diego selbst kümmert sich ausgesprochen
gut um seine Gäste.

I have been on many horseback riding experiences in different countries but this by far exceeds all of them. Diego is so welcoming and ensures we get to know basics as well as the horses before starting our ride. He and his assistant lead us through the 3-4 hour journey while teaching us about the beauty of Salento and it’s surroundings. His land makes for a beautiful landscape and the opportunity to explore it while on horseback was one of the most unique experiences I’ve had. We made two stops during the ride so we could rest as well as the horses (the pictures from the top will definitely be framed!). My family is from the neighboring city so I will definitely be back with them because more people need to experience this. Thank you so much Diego!
Our horseback riding tour was the highlight of our trip and the perfect ending to our time in Colombia. Diego is a terrific tour guide and made this one of the most memorable experiences ever. De tour duurt lang genoeg om de Salento vallei in al zijn schoonheid te ervaren. Je hoeft geen ervaring te hebben met paardrijden, de dieren luisteren heel goed. Onderweg krijg je mooie verhalen en interessante wetenswaardigheden te horen. Diego is een goede gids en ook een uitstekende gastheer. Dont miss this!
The ride with Diego was magical! We were a group of 2, and wandered across the family estate in the cocora valley with his well trained (and treated!) horses, dogs and eventually even some of their cows! Diego takes pride in what he does, and that made the whole experience extremely special and personal. This is truly a serene, authentic and memorable experience, and a must do! Fantastic hotel. Initially we booked for one night and we liked it so much that we extended it to 3. The owner, Don Diego, a beautiful person who captivated us with his wisdom of the place and the stories about Colombia. We highly recommend riding with them. The views and the road through its huge estate is waste-free. Pacho and Juanita were our horses. The farm, cozy and typical of the place. We felt at home at all times. Homemade food and very rich, all with a lot of love and detail. We can not be more grateful, we would definitely repeat, the best accommodation of the whole trip by far. Hope to come back soon.
The accommodation was very authentic and very nicely located in the Cocora Valley. The team around Don Diego was very friendly. The riding trip with Don Diego was one of our highlights in Colombia.
It is a beautiful place in the countryside, lovingly designed and furnished. We were warmly welcomed and taken care of. Too bad we had only booked two nights.
Die Finca liegt traumhaft und ist umgeben von wunderschlner Landschaft. Wir haben es sehr genossen einfach auf der Terasse zu sitzen, den Ausblick zu genießen und den Geräuschen in der Umgebung zu lauschen. Die Mitarbeiter waren sehr freundlich und haben uns immer wieder bei der Organisation von Ausflügen und dem Transport dorthin geholfen. Die Lage der Finca zwischen Salento und Cocora Valley war hierbei sehr hilfreich. Die angebotenen Speisen waren lecker und wir haben neben dem Frühstück mehrfach auf der Finca gegessen. Der Eigentümer der Finca, Diego, war für uns immer ansprechbar und hat sich sehr um unser Wohlergehen bemüht. Man spürt schnell, dass er für seine Finca und die Idee der nachhaltigen Nutzung der lamdwirtschafrlichen Flächen brennt. Ein absolutes Highlight war der Ausflug mit Diego und seinen Pferden in die Anliegenden Berghänge. Das Reiten die herrliche Vegetation und den atemberaubenden Blick vom den Berghängen werden wir noch lange in Erinnerung halten. Die kurze Wanderung in den Urwald und Diegos Erläuterungen rundeten dieses unvergessliche Erlebnis ab.

My friend and I came from busy Bogota and this was the perfect place to slow down. Diego and Clara are the fabulous owners of this Finca with 800 acres of protected area and a lovely garden filled with birdsong and evening fireflies. Very quiet lovely staff, simple rooms and meals. Trout, wonderful spaghetti carbonara , grilled chicken and rice. Some guests walked to a small restaurant nearby, but we chose to stay and eat in and refresh! The breakfast was very good. The highlight was the fabulous horseback ride to Elephant rock and elf forest with the owner, Diego and his compadre Guillimo. Diego flew back specially to the reserve to lead this trip.There were about 7 of us. Very good horses but somewhat challenging terrain- crossing streams and steep ascent and decent. We were served chilled white wine at top and enjoyed great views. This is a wonderful quiet retreat outside of Salento, but you can walk into town- about 30 minutes along the road, to you can call a taxi.
Reserva Guadalajara it’s like heaven on earth. The house it’s surrounded by the nature with an amazing view.
I’ve spent a lot of time in Colombia and this was by far my favorite place I’ve stayed so far. The food was exceptional and the service provided by staff was above and beyond. The owner, Diego, is extremely welcoming and speaks both English and Spanish. The horse back ride with Diego and Guillermo is a must! This stay was the most relaxing and enjoyable part of our trip.
Super Frühstück, Eine tolle Lage außerhalb von Salento. Dennoch ist man schnell und günstig per Uber oder Taxi im Ort. Don Diego ist ein super Gastgeber. Er ist sehr freundlich und ermöglichte uns einen extra Ausritt. Es war unglaublich schön Ein Highlight unserer Reise durch Kolumbien.
Lage außerhalb ist toll, aber man muss das Taxi in den Ort nehmen.
Hausherr Diego hat seinen Beruf an den Nagel gehängt, um sich sein Traum zu erfüllen und die Finca seiner Kindheit zu führen – und das merkt man, alles ist mit Liebe gestaltet und strahlt Freundlichkeit und Ruhe aus. Diego hat uns am Reitausflug unheimlich viel über die Gegend, die Landschaft und die Fauna und Flora erzählt, der kleine Ausflug in den Urwald dabei ist eine feine Bereicherung. Frühstück und Essen sind wunderbar, und die Finca ist gut erreichbar (egal ob mit Auto, denn „Willys“ am Weg tiefer hinein ins Cocora Tal oder Taxi, ein paar Minuten von Salento)
Diego is definition of hospitality. He is passionate to share his knowledge of surrounding area and flora. Serene/picturesque ranch belonging to Diego’s family for generations. Horse experience offered by the host is a MUST. Tammy and Rocco the dogs are well trained and friendly. Food was also tasty and reasonably priced. He can also arrange transportation. Don Diego and his wonderful staff made this the most perfect experience ever. My only complaint is that this was the first place I stayed at the beginning of my 2-month trip to Colombia, and nothing else could match the perfection and loveliness of Reserva Guadalajara. The domain is full of different birds and plants. You don’t need to go anywhere, the beauty is just all around you. My corner room was amazing, with a double view on the garden. It was enough to just lie in bed and listen to the birds and the rain… Such peace, such joy… The shower, the bathroom, the bed, the linen, all perfect. There is plenty of room to put your personal belongings, the room is plenty big and there was even a desk so I could work. I also loved to work on the porch, with its view over the garden. Breakfast was varied, plentiful and delicious. I never had a better breakfast throughout my stay in the country. Lunch and dinner were less than perfect, but still filling. Don Diego took me horseriding. It was my first time on a horse, but I felt super comfortable. The horse knew what he was doing, and the elegant, lively, pleasant Don Diego was always there with his wonderful conversation. I went to explore La Carbonera with a friend of Don Diego’s, Carlos Escobar Botero, and that was also an unforgettable experience. It’s cheap and easy to take a taxi to Salento or to Filandia. There are several beautiful walks around the lodging, with rivers and great trees. My dream was to return there at the end of my trip, but it wasn’t possible. I will always try to return. It was like a dream.
Het was een geweldig hotel op een mooi gelegen plek. Er is niet enorm veel te doen in de Cocora Vally maar Diego (de gastheer) heeft allemaal avonturen voor je klaarstaan. Wij hebben een fantastische tocht gemaakt te paard naar een stuk regenwoud. Diego heeft ons ten alle tijden vermaakt zonder op onze lip te zitten. Het eten is ook zalig. Heus Colombiaans eten en ze staan open voor aanpassingen mocht je zin hebben in iets anders. Wil je een echte ervaring in het Colombiaanse koffiegebied en het kleine dorp Salento is dit een aanrader. Verstopt in de natuur, nog geen 10 minuten van het dorp.

Great property in a lovely location. 45 minutes on foot from Salento or a short Jeep or taxi ride away. This is a perfect place to come and reset from all of the chaos that some of the bigger cities in Colombia offer. Coming here was one of the best decisions that we have made on our Colombia trip. The elephant rock horse ride with Diego and Guillermo was an unforgettable experience which I could not recommend booking enough. The staff are all lovely, highly attentive and are happy to help in any way which they can. The breakfast is amazing and hearty and both times we ate dinner, the food was spot on. We’d recommend the trout in garlic paired with a nice glass, or bottle, of vino blanco! The hot chocolate at breakfast. Amazing! We did the Cocora valley loop trail in 4hrs (inclusive of a stop). We hike quite regularly, this trail was great, at times not so well signposted but we got round after a detour or two. We’d class it as a moderate trail, with two pay booths along the way and also facilities to buy drinks etc if needed. We walked from the reserve to Salento and picked a Jeep up to take us to the trail head. Finca Ocaso was the coffee tour that we took (also via Jeep from Salento. And Filandia is a trip well worth recommending especially on Saturday or Sunday when the locals are all out- just be sure to book your Jeep from Salento in advance as this service can sell out pretty quickly. 10/10 for Reserva Guadalajara.
Todo el personal, en especial Don Diego, han sido muy atentos y encantadores. El cuidado que tienen hacia los animales y el entorno es excepcional. Señalar que Don Diego tiene una experiencia de montar a caballo por las montañas del Valle de Cocora realmente increíble, respetando mucho el trato a los caballos.
Wát een prachtige locatie midden in het koffiedistrict; wát een aimabele gastheer die werkelijk alles er aan doet om het naar je zin te maken; wát een fantastisch personeel dat de hele dag klaar staat voor je. Kortom, Salento Colombia; vergeet alle anderen en boek deze accomodatie en vergeet zéker niet de ‘horse ride-Tour’ te boeken die je verblijf nooit meer doet vergeten. Albergo: Fin dal primo momento ci siamo sentiti molto ben accolti. Personale molto attento e disponibile. Camere ordinate e pulite. Cibo ottimo, vera cucina colombiana. Tour a cavallo: super raccomandato! Sono sempre andata a cavallo e fatto gare e questa è stata una delle piu belle gite a cavallo che abbia mai fatto. Percorso suggestivo nella mezzo di della reserva guatelajara, cavalli ben domati, il tutto contornato dalla passione di Don diego che ti accompagna nelle sue valli.
Diego nous a merveilleusement accueillis. Extrêmement disponible, il nous a donné de très bons conseils pour notre séjour à Salento Nous avons fait la balade en cheval proposé par Diego. Les paysages étaient sublimes. Un moment magique. Nos adolescents ont adoré!
La ubicación al inicio del Valle del Cocora y su cercanía a Salento, lo hace perfecto. El enclave es idílico, desayunar o ver atardecer con esas vistas es un auténtico lujo que permite desconectar del ajetreo de las grandes ciudades y volver a reconectar con las personas y la naturaleza. Diego y todo su equipo son gente maravillosa, su atención y amabilidad hicieron que nos sintiésemos como en casa desde el minuto uno. Mención especial a los desayunos, deliciosos!!!!
The location was amazing. Surrounded by green mountains and tons of animals (dogs, horses, cows, etc). The staff makes you feel right at home. Diego and the rest of the crew are so friendly and welcoming. There’s delicious breakfast every morning that comes with the booking. They offer delicious lunch and dinner every day for a very reasonable price. The showers are nice and the rooms are cozy. They offer an amazing horseback tour. We rode horses across rivers and streams and deep into the mountains where Diego provided some history and information about the area. I 100% recommend this place to anyone thinking about going to Salento or Cocora Valley. I wish I would have been able to stay here longer. Great place to relax and unplug. Believe it or not, I think it’s also a great place to get some work done if you’re able to work remotely. I had to get some schoolwork out of the way and the front porch provided a great atmosphere for that.
A reserva é um verdadeiro paraíso! Difícil descrever em palavras a paz que eu senti enquanto estive lá! Diego e Jeni fizeram de tudo para que eu me sentisse em casa! Fui muito, muito bem recebida por eles e senti um carinho enorme em cada detalhe! As camas são super confortáveis, a roupa de cama também é muito gostosa!! Dormi muito bem e pude descansar muito nos dias em que estive lá! A reserva também é bem próxima do centro da cidade e é de fácil acesso para os passeios mais famosos, como Valle de Cocora. Um destaque super especial para o passeio a cavalo, que é indescritível! Vi provavelmente uma das paisagens mais lindas que já vi na vida!! Eu nunca tinha andado a cavalo antes e consegui desfrutar em plenitude dessa aventura! Foi maravilhoso! Espero poder voltar em breve! Muito obrigada Diego, Jeni, Sandra e equipe por todo o carinho!!

Unforgettable experience in Diego’s reserva. We had the chance to go for a morning horse tour and this may be our best experience in Colombia out of time. Diego and all his team (special thanks to Yeni, Yessica and Sandra) are unbelievable and dedicated without forgetting the docs Choco, Rocco, and Tami!
Nous avons passé un excellent séjour. Au delà de nos attentes. Diego est un hôte incroyablement gentil qui contribue à ce que notre séjour se passe au mieux. Nous avons fait la balade à cheval pendant près de 4h sur sa magnifique propriété, dans les montagnes et dans la forêt. c’était magique. Des paysages à couper le souffle, des chevaux extrêmement bien dressés et un petit apéro offert. C’était la plus belle des balades à cheval que j’ai faite dans ma vie. Un immense merci à Diego de nous avoir fait vivre ce moment inoubliable. La maison est très propre, très conviviale, on se sent comme chez soi. je comprends mieux les commentaires élogieux dans les avis. Un immense merci !!!
